About Skolsköld
Skolsköld was born from frustration — and a shocking invoice.
As IT coordinator at Carlssons Skola in Stockholm, I was tasked with setting up an incident management system the school had licensed. I wasn't consulted on the purchase — I was just asked to make it work. The system ran on our own Azure subscription, and when I saw the bill I was stunned: 5,500–7,000 SEK per month just for hosting, on top of the licensing fee. And every support ticket was billed separately.
But it wasn't just the money. Some pages took 39 seconds to load. Student data was handled in ways that fell far short of GDPR compliance. We were paying a fortune for a system that was neither fast, secure, nor user-friendly.
At first, I just wanted to build a cheaper alternative. But the deeper I dug into the problems, the more I realized it wasn't enough to make it cheaper — it needed to be done right. Proper GDPR compliance with EU-hosted servers. A complete audit trail. Support for protected student identities. Automatic sync with the student registry. Pages that load in under half a second, not half a minute.
So Skolsköld grew from a cost-saving idea into a complete platform — built by an IT coordinator who understands the reality of Swedish schools.
